LTI 1.3 Integration with Blackboard

Registering the BibliU tool

Step 1: Create an account at https://developer.blackboard.com/

Step 2: Log into the newly created account to see the applications. You will need to create a new application by clicking the + button.

Step 3: Fill the data with the following details:

• Application Name: The name you want for your integration (e.g. INSTITUTIONNAME-BibliuLTI1.3)
• Description: BibliU’s LTI 1.3 integration allows users to create and access their account seamlessly by clicking on the tool in Blackboard.
• Domain(s): bibliu.com

Set the option My Integration supports LTI 1.3 to green:

A new set of fields will appear. Fill them in with the following details:

• Login Initiation URL: https://bibliu.com/users/lti/initialise-login
• Tool Redirect URL(s): https://bibliu.com/users/lti
• Tool JWKS URL: https://bibliu.com/users/lti/jwks/[ID BibliU will provide to you]
• Signing Algorithm: RS256
• Custom Parameters: Empty

Step 4: You will be redirected to a page with a set of values. Please save all of them in a safe place, we will need them in further steps.

You should see your new registered application in the section My Applications.

 

Step 5: Go to your Blackboard instance Admin portal → System Admin → LTI Tool Providers

Step 6: Click Register LTI1.3/Advantage Tool

Step 7: Copy the Application ID that you obtained in Step 4 and paste it into the field Client Id:

The fields you entered on previous steps should be filled in automatically. Please review them to make sure they are correct.

Step 8: Copy the value of Deployment ID. This value needs to be sent back to BibliU to identify the installation of the tool in the LMS.

Step 9: Give the tool permission to receive course related information and user related information. This are used to automatically create accounts on BibliU from the LMS information.

Step 10: Click submit. Make sure the tool is in Status APPROVED to be able to use it. If not, click the little arrow on the tool name and click Approve.

Step 11: Send back to BibliU the following properties:

• Application ID
• Deployment ID
• Issuer- https://blackboard.com
• LMS Domain- https://developer.blackboard.com

BibliU will then configure your registered LTI integration to allow traffic from the deployed tool in your LMS and authorize it correctly.

Managing Course Links

After you have set BibliU up as an LTI 1.3 Tool Provider, you can place LTI links into courses.

Manage Placements

This is the best option if you will be placing the same link in every course. This will make an LTI link to BibliU available in Course Tools.

1. Click on the System Admin panel tab.
2. Under the “Integrations” section select “LTI Tool Providers”.
3. Click the arrow next to the provider domain and click Manage Placements.

1. Click Create PlacementEnter the following:
   1. Placement Information
      1. Label: Enter what you would like to have appear in the course, for example, BibliU- Textbooks and Course Materials
      2. Handle: BibliU
      3. Availability: Yes
      4. Type - Choose which best fits your need: 
         1. Course tool, student -Select this option if you would like to add the link to the course menu (classic) or would like the tool to be available to students in the books & tools menu (ultra)- be sure to check off "Allow Student Access".
         2. Course content tool - Select this option if you would like faculty to add the link to their course through the Content section (classic) or Content Market (ultra)

3. Tool Provider Information: 

In the Target Link URI Field, please enter "https://bibliu.com/users/lti"

4. Click Submit

From here, faculty and students should be able to see the tool in their course if they click on "Tools" in the left hand navigation menu of any course. The tool will show as an option as displayed below:

Adding Tool Link to the Course Menu

Default Course Menu

This will allow you to add a Link Placement to the default Course Menu. This is your best option if you would like to have the BibliU Tool link available in all courses by default as pictured here:

1. Click on the System Admin Panel Tab and click on “Course Settings” under the “Courses” section.
2. Select “Course Menu and Structures”.
3. Click the + on the default Course menu
4. Select Tool Link and enter the following:
   1. Name: Enter what you would like to appear in the Course Menu
   2. Type: Select the link placement you created for BibliU
   3. Available to Users: Check the box
5. Click Submit

Course Level Menu

This will allow you to add a Link Placement to the menu for a specific course if it hasn't been done already at the default course level.

1. From within a course, click the + on the top left hand corner of the Course Menu

1. Click Tool Link and enter the following:
   • Name: Enter what you like to appear in the Course Menu
   • Type: Select the link placement for the BibliU tool you’d like to use
   • Available to Users: Check the box
2. Click Submit

Adding Links to a Content Area

Creating a Link from a Link Placement

This will allow you to add a Link Placement to a content area in a course. Courses typically have a content area labelled Content available in the Course Menu by default.

1. From within a course, click Content in the Course Menu
2. Click on the Build Content drop-down menu and locate the BibliU tool you’d like to use.
3. Enter the following info to create your link:
   • Link Name: Enter what you’d like the link to be called. For example: BibliU- Textbooks and Course Materials
   • Available: Yes
4. Click Submit

Creating a Link

This will allow you to add a link to a course. This is the best option if the links you need to use will vary by course. An example of when to use this is when you are linking to a specific ebook. These links can be added to Content areas, Learning Modules, Module Pages, and Content Folders.

1. When in a course, click Content in the Course Menu on the left hand side of the page.
2. Click Build Content and select Web Link from the dropdown menu
3. Enter the following info to create your link:
   1. Web Link Information
      1. Name: Enter what you’d like the link to be called. Example: BibliU- Textbooks and Course Materials
      2. URL: https://bibliu.co/app/#/library (You will need to enter the eISBN for the specific BibliU book you are using. Example: https://bibliu.co/app/#/view/books/9780198556961/epub/html/toc.html

3. This link is a Tool Provider: Check the box

3. Attachments - Optional
4. Web Link Options
   1. Open in New Window: Yes
5. Standard Options
   1. Permit Users to View this Content: Yes
   2. Track Number of Views: No
   3. Select date and time restrictions as necessary for the course
6. Click Submit
